Project SOS -
Support Our Soldiers, Inc.
Early Days -
It all started about two years ago, when my son was stationed with the Army in Afghanistan. He often spoke of the unfortunate plight of the poor people in war-torn Afghanistan who sufferred bitter winters with little protection, and less food.
In our skype internet phone calls, he repeatedly sought my assistance to help him and the other soldiers in his unit to obtain some much needed medical and health supplies. Supplies that the medics in his unit could use to help save the lives of the malnourished and sick (or even wounded) young children in the villages surrounding his camp in the remote mountains of Afghanistan.
Initially, I approached my friends in the Rotary Club of The Villages, here in Central Florida, to help me to support my son and his unit in Afghanistan. He asked me to collect and then ship to him some babywipes, infant formula, anticeptics, antibiotics, soap, bandages, and other medical and health supplies.
Our first efforts were small, but greatly appreciated. What initially began as a small grass roots effort to collect and ship those supplies to my son, however, soon grew into a much larger project.
Soon we were involved in involved with the Central Florida Health Alliance and the Villages Hospital in collecting, sterilizing, and then recycling medical and health supplies to my son's unit in Afghanistan.
I'm Gary Kadow, and I'm proud to be the driving force
behind what has ultimately become Project SOS!
